If all species evolved to have a lifespan, could an animal have a mutation that caused it not to get old & die

Telomeres tick off each time our cells reproduce. This contributes to our having a finite lifespan. Animals with longer lives have a telomere countdown that takes longer than ours. Could an animal be born with a mutation that keeps this aging mechanism from being a factor?
