Do you think in the Spiritual sense of things women were closer to 'Enlightenment' before women's liberation?

People have invented all sort of nonsense to keep women from working, in some sects of hinduism they claim that the woman is the 'honour' of the family, so if she has premarital , marries a stranger or wears something y, naturally it's much worse than if a guy had done it. the buddhists thing about nurturing is the same crap. My mother worked and had her own independence and was still a great mother and a good person.
