Any doctors, nurses or other medical professionals - need your advice please -?

I have had a persistent deep dry hacking cough for several weeks. Thought it was a typical cold or flu and tried to self medicate for first couple weeks (OTC cough & cold meds, liquids, rest) - Well after almost 3 weeks it still was not getting better, In fact I finally ended up pulling or bruising a muscle in my right side from coughing so hard and often. So I went to Dr's 5 days ago - he gave me (1) Medrol [methylprednisolone] 4mg pack, 6 days/21 tabs, (2) Z-pack, 250 mg, 6 tablets, 5 days, (3) pain med for muscle tear/pull/bruise in right side. I also have continued to take the OTC Tussin CF (dextro, guafin, phenyl). So after 5 days I've taken most of the meds now and and I honestly feel like I am not much improved. The treatment did seem to just barely start breaking up some Very very heavy thick congestion and croup in both my lungs - I still have the deep painful cough, but now it is getting some very thick mucus of some sort moving around in my lungs, but I still cannot get any of it "up".- the sharp pain in the far right side of my chest has now changed to a general dull throbbing pain all over my chest/lung area now. My whole chest area, both sides, feel like I've gone 13 rounds in the ring getting punched in the chest and lungs by Mike Tyson. It is just sore all over both sides now. in the chest/lung area. My cough has improved in that it is less frequent now, but its still very painful and intense when I do cough and very hard to make any of this thick flem in my lungs "move" around but at last I do feel it slightly moving atleast. It was like "cement" before the drugs I took for the last 5 days. No movement whatsoever in the chest congestion. But its just starting to break up a bit now, I wish I could just get some of it "up" and out which I can't yet. Also now I have developed a loud deep wheezing sound coming from my lungs on exhale (nothing when I inhale though). It sounds like the exorcist girl almost. It even scares me sometimes the noise of this wheezing. Can anyone PLEASE give me some advice on what to do, ideas, what this might be? Why wouldn't the Z-pack and steriods have had more of an effect on me and knocked this "whatever it is" out of my lungs and my system by now ?? The doctor said to come back early next week (Tues) if I am not improving, and he would do an xray. I am really worried this thing is getting me so down and worn out, and the pain when I cough is just killing me, (Note: The nurse said I did have a slight fever when I went to Drs,five days ago - just 1 or 1.5 degrees above normal). Once in a while I can get a "whiff" or taste of this super-thick flem in my lungs when I cough, and it does sort of feel like it is "infected" to me. Can someone tell me what I might have and how to treat it ? Is this like a bronchitis or pneumonia perhaps? Whatever it is, how do I "knock it out" of my system once and for all ?? !!!
